The Evolution of Training

LESSON #1:

Before golf, I played many sports and always wanted to be the best I could be.  To achieve this, I decided that I needed to be stronger, so I began lifting and working out in a gym.  After lifting weights for about a year, I noticed I had reached a plateau of 255lbs bench press.   I couldn’t get past it no matter what I did.  I read every workout magazine article and watched workout videos, but I couldn’t get past this point.  I asked professional trainers and experienced lifters, but none of their advice worked for me.

By pure luck, a friend of mine purchased a new speed resistance training product on the market, and I stopped by to check it out.  We worked out together for about a month and a half and I could feel my body changing.  I went back to the gym and tried the bench press again.  To my amazement, I put up 275lbs for six reps and you would have thought I won the Lottery! I continued alternating the traditional gym workout and the speed resistance training workout, and two months later I hit my goal of 300lbs. This was my first lesson, and I had no idea what it was at that time.

LESSON #2:

While in college, I played Men’s Volleyball and I was only 6’1” tall.  As you can imagine, I was one of the shorter guys on the team and I needed to jump higher to compete with the giants across the net.  This is where my quest to jump higher began.  I tried a lot of solid programs, and I always tried to pick the brains of the guys who could jump the highest.  I wanted to find out what they knew or did that I didn’t.  After a few minor improvements with my vertical jump thanks to traditional weight training, I stumbled upon Plyometrics.

By definition, Plyometrics is a type of exercise training designed to produce FAST, POWERFUL MOVEMENTS and IMPROVE THE FUNCTIONS OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM, generally in SPORTS.  It is also know as EXPLOSIVE EXERCISES.  I thought to myself, “Why don’t more people know about this Plyometrics?”I can’t remember what I paid, but I got a box jump set and I didthe Plyometrics workouts for four months.  There were only a few exercises, but all them were so effective and I could feel the improvement.  After using the program, I went from a 35” vertical jump to a 40”, which was unreal to me.

This Second lesson was eye-opening!  I now knew that with the right information and training, I could improve at any sport with unbelievable gains.
